What the !?#@ Wednesdays, Week 2

Welcome to week #2 of the What the !?#@ Wednesdays series.  For the next 5 Wednesdays I will be posting a summary of the things that made me think (or say)..."What the !?#@" during the past week. Have you missed any What the !?#@ Wednesdays?  See week 1 here.

What the !?#@ Food Spectacle of the Week:

995 hotdogs weighing 140 pounds dropped from a helicopter in Detroit.  On purpose, by a radio station.  25 listeners were picked to -QUOTE- rush the pile o' dogs and stuff as many as they could in their clothing within 95 seconds" -UNQUOTE-.
I bet your just itching to know who won, right?  Don't worry, I'll tell you.  It was the luck Sylvia Lopez who managed to shove 76 hot dogs in her shirt.  Although she claims her "hands smell kind of rank", asides from pride, she also won $1,000 in gas money and a year's worth of hotdogs.

Way to go Syl! Making your town proud!

What the !?#@ Are You Kidding me Lawsuit of the Week:

"The lawsuit claims that Ferrero made statements suggesting that Nutella is healthier than it actually is."

Really people?  Really?

If you really think that Nutella is HEALHTY for you...Nutella should sue YOU.  But seriously, every jar of Nutella I've ever eaten by myself bought has had a nutrition label and ingredient list on it.  First ingredient, Sugar.

Seriously...lawsuits like this are embarrassing.

I'm gonna go have me a big healthy spoonful of Nutella for breakfast.

And I'm saving the best for last....

What the !?#@ Husband Move of the Week:
I may be breaking am probably breaking the 'don't sell out your spouse' unspoken code of martial conduct with this one, but I'm going to throw Aaron under the bus...for the sake of my new blog, my readers, and for the human race.  Well...maybe not that last one.

Before I get into the nitty gritty you should know a few things.  Aaron prefers me NOT to share a drinking glass with him (I don't get it).  Aaron thinks it's gross that I don't always jump in the shower and brush my teeth IMMEDIATELY after waking up (It's not as if I don't shower...I just like to lounge around for a little first).  Sometimes I can skeeve him out & threaten him by pretending to use HIS toothbrush (I never have actually used his toothbrush).  He doesn't find it gross to polish off 4 lbs of buffalo wings resulting in his entire upper body and the area surrounding him to be covered in hot sauce and chicken parts...BUT if he gets his hands dirty he has to immediately wash them.

So because of these things....the move he pulled this past week was shocking.  S-H-O-C-K-I-N-G.  As in, I started yelling and screaming and laughing and "What the !?@#'ing" all over the apartment.  I'm still in shock.  So here it goes...

I'm on Gchat with my sister the other day just catching up, no biggie.  Aaron comes home from the gym, everyone says hi, we continue our conversation and Aaron goes to shower.  Meanwhile, somehow Rach and I thought of this little harmless prank to pull on him.  Well, I would do the prank alone since it was my husband in the shower after all.  It wasn't even really a prank, but just something to get a laugh and maybe have Aaron shake his head in disappointment towards my gags.  I will spare Aaron by not unveiling the details of this...for now anyway.

So I leave the computer with Rachael in the office and I head into the bathroom.  Aaron and I get a good chuckle and I see him dance through the frosted glass of the shower door.  No biggie, I mean who DOESN'T dance in the shower, right?  So for another haha, I open the shower door to compliment his dance moves and I SEE IT!!!

TIME OUT-
***Okay, I realize that this whole story is probably leading you in a completely different direction than I mean it too.  I actually just had to leave the room because I was laughing so hard after I typed "I SEE IT!!!".  I guarantee I am not talking about what you are thinking right now.  But it's too funny, so I'm going to leave all that wording in there.  Sorry mom & dad...but keep reading, I swear this story is more innocent than your minds are right now.***
-TIME IN

So I peer into the shower and there, THERE he is holding MY razor.  The razor I shave MY legs with and MY armpits with.  Immediately I question, "What are you doing with my razor?".

He lifts up his arms.  And I say....

"WHAT THE !?@#, YOU ARE USING MY RAZOR TO SHAVE YOUR ARMPITS!!!!!!??????"
"WHY MY RAZOR, YOU HAVE 2 RAZORS IN THE BATHROOM OF YOUR OWN"
"DID YOU CHANGE THE BLADE?  WERE YOU GOING TO CHANGE THE BLADE?!?!"
"WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK?  WHO DOES THAT!"

He sort of shrugs and says, "I'm sorry, I knew it was wrong the whole time I was doing it."

BAHAHAHAHAHA
Come to find out...this isn't the first time he's used my razor for this sort of thing.  But since I caught him in the act....this is the first time he's changed my razor blade afterwards.

I really don't care, although I don't understand why he used (uses) mine when he has perfectly good razors of his own.  I just find it hysterical that he gets grossed out by all these little things, and then he goes around using someone else's razor.  It definitely made the What the !?@# Wednesday of the Week...

I also just want to clarify a few things:
  1. It's hot in Oklahoma already.  Lots of guys shave/trim their armpits, and not just in Oklahoma.  It solves that whole sweaty hairy disgusting problem they've got going on.
  2. Aaron did say that he has NEVER used anyone else's razor but mine, and he wouldn't use someone else's razor.  Just wanted to clear the air for anyone who's ever had Aaron stay at their house.
  3. I did get Aaron's permission to share this story with you, but I was unable to get a picture of his freshly shaven underarms.

I Want My Order!!!

For the record....
Waiting, especially for something you ordered, is the worst thing ever.

I'd also like to know why I have the urge to refresh my fed-ex page every minute, when I know it's not going to change.

Since we are on the topic, why doesn't food magically appear in my fridge after opening and closing that door?

Why do my cloths take longer to dry when I need that one pair of pants.  And it's always the damn denim, the ones you can't get away with having almost completely dry.

And why does my mail guy delivery other peoples mail to us on a regular basis.  I wonder where all my mail is. Someone else is scoring big on the free samples this week.

What the !?#@ Wednesdays, Week 1

Welcome to the What the !?#@ Wednesdays series.  For the next 6 Wednesdays I will be posting a summary of the things that made me think (or say)..."What the !?#@" during the past week.

Some things may have made me laugh out loud, some may have had me shaking my head, and others...we'll, I'm not sure how to feel about them.  No mater what...they had me asking....What the !?#@.

What the !?#@ Quote of the Week:
"I wish there was a way to write a letter and send it to you online."
....What a great idea, maybe they can call it e-mail, you know, like, 'electronic mail'.  Get it?  Get it?... *sigh*

What the !?#@ Great Idea of the Week:
Russian man jumps in garbage chute to escape from girlfriend.
Source: BBC
Man jumps in chute on the 8th floor.  Man slides down to 5th floor. Man gets stuck.  Man cries for help.  Man has to be cut free.
What the !?#@ This Should Never Happen of the Week:
Arby's customer finds piece of finger in sandwich.
Really?  You're thinking Arby's?  Cause I'm thinking not.  Really...it was in his mouth.  I feel bad for this kid. I know he's traumatized.  I know this because this story reminds me of my own fast food experience.  If you're brave enough, read about it here.  I can barely think about it again, I'm getting so skeeved out right now talking about it.  Seriously...it has traumatized me.  I'm not kidding.  Ugh.

Ugh.

PCS Purge Talk #1

Over at Kacey's Kitchen this week, I talked about purging the foodie supplies before a move.  I love to clean, organize and get rid of clutter, so we'll be covering lots of those topics here.  Pictures in this post are from our PCS1 in 2011 from Florida to Oklahoma.
We still have 8 months until our move date (exact departure date tba), so some of you may think it's waaay to early to start.  If you think that, I would make a pretty hefty bet that either 1) you've never moved or 2) someone else does ALL the moving for you...like you live with your parents and they do it all for you.

I say that it is never too early to sort, organize or purge.  I think it's true whether or not you are planning for a move.  The less clutter and hoarding you have, the easier your life in general will be.  You'll know where stuff is, no more tearing rooms apart looking for that one piece of paper.  Your house will look much cleaner!  When you do decide to move...it will be much more of a 'pick up and go' rather than something you dread.
(PPM aka DITY move2)
I understand it's easier to say than to actually do, and it may be even easier for me to organize because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!  It's also a bit easier for us, because for the foreseeable future, we will always be moving.  We are conscious of that when making nearly every purchase.  Is it something we want to move around with us year after year?  Will it fit in most apartments and houses?  Will it survive multiple moves?  If any of those questions answer 'no', and we still want the item, we ask, how easily can we sell it before we move?

There are a few things that we find trouble balancing:
  • We don't need a a lot of stuff, but we want to live comfortably and be able to host family & friends comfortably.
  • We don't need fancy and brand new furniture, but it's nice to live like adults, and not on plastic crates like in college.  Not that there is anything wrong with plastic crates...it's just, we've been there, done that.  You know?
  • We don't want to spend a lot of money on furniture in case it gets ruined during all of our future moves.  Than again, cheap furniture isn't gonna have the quality to survive multiple moves.
  • When people want to buy us stuff.  This one isn't such a big deal, but it comes up.  We love receiving gifts, don't get us wrong, and our gift givers are awesome and always get us stuff we love and use.  But it's still more stuff.  I've moved 6 times including college. One of those was a military move, and we are currently preparing for an overseas move.  Everything that enters our doorway, I think about moving it.
 (HHG3)
I should probably clarify, when I say 'we', I mean 'me'.  Aaron thinks I'm insane for my love of organizing and moving.  Yup, you heard me. I love to move.  I love packing and unpacking and setting up and all that jazz.  Aaron hates doing that stuff, so it works out really well.  He's willing to help, but he knows the best thing to do is let me handle it all.  Basically....when I'm on the move....get outta my way!  When I need help or his advice or input, he knows I'll ask him.  He's also extremely cooperative when I ask him to sort through his stuff in order for me to do something with.  I'm careful not to get rid of/shred anything that he might need without checking with him first...cause that could end up being a bummer.
I've already started getting rid of lots of stuff, we had our first yard sale last weekend.  I've been scanning documents like crazy.  Backing up digital files like crazy.  Reading & giving away books like crazy.  Although I forgot to take pictures of the 'before' stage of my current purge projects, I'd still love to share with you what I've been doing.  Going forward, I'll be taking lots of pictures of my projects to show you.  One of those projects will be informing the cat of an overseas move and what that means for her.

1PCS:  Permanent Change of Station.  Well, as permanent as a military move can & will be.  This is when a military member moves from one duty station to another.

2PPM aka DITY Move:  Previously known as a DITY Move (Do It Yourself Move), a PPM is a Personally Procured Move.  This allows you (the mover) to move all or some of your HHG.  Following the appropriate procedures of a PPM, you will be reimbursed up to the governments cost. Most moves will include at least a partial PPM, which is what we did when moving from Florida to Oklahoma.  The movers packed most of our stuff, but we filled our vehicles to the brim with things we didn't want damaged or lost, and things we would use right away at our new home.  We got our vehicles weighed empty & when we were fully loaded.  We were able to receive our PPM reimbursement, per diem, and mileage reimbursement, all for driving our 2 vehicles to a place we were going to have to drive them anyway.  There are two major things that are awesome about this.  1) We made money off of doing a PPM and 2) We had a lot of our stuff with us, which was awesome when our HHG shipment took 2 weeks to arrive.

3HHG Shipment:  HHG stands for Household Goods.  There are lots of details involving a HHG shipment, so meeting with you Transportation Office or Readiness Center would be your first step for a move.  We've only moved once within the states, so that's all I can really speak about.  Basically, the government pays to move your stuff when sending you to another 'permanent' duty station.  The service member (or designated other person, like a spouse) coordinates the packing, shipping, and arrival with a contracted moving company.  This is typically your 'bulk' shipment, unless you are doing a full PPM.

Where?

So, your moving to Okinawa Japan? That's awesome! Wait...where is that???

Assignment Night - JAPAN!

I thought I'd take some time to explain how we found out about moving to Japan.

We were hoping for an overseas assignment and just assumed that locations in Europe would be available.

Aaron came home one day and told me Europe wasn't on the dream sheet1.  I was sort of bummed, but no biggie really. We both are in agreement that we want to live lots of places, and thanks to the military, we will probably get the opportunity.  And if we end up in a place we don't really like...it's only temporary. So anyway, he tells me Europe is a no go, however, Japan is on the list, with a plane that he's interested in.

Holy motherfuckingshitballs!

So for the next few weeks I can't help myself. I start researching Japan. Overseas moves.  Importing the cat into Japan.  Etcetera. And every day I have to remind myself not to get excited yet...there are still 20 or so other assignments he could get. Then I go look up more Japanese stuff.

I know, I know...that's basically just asking to get your hopes up.  But I knew what I was doing, I knew we had just as much chance to get assigned to Japan as we did anywhere else.  I understood that.  That's what I told myself.  And to be fair, I started researching the top 5 places we put on our dream sheet, just to figure out where exactly we could be going...just to be a little familiar with stuff.  I'd like to be caught off guard as little as possible.

Aaron submits his dream sheet, and we have to wait a couple of weeks for assignment night2.  I continue my research and break it to my parents that an overseas move is possible.  Meanwhile, Aaron concentrates on finishing up his last few flights before graduation.

Assignment night arrives, and I am sooooooo nervous.  I don't know why.  I know I'll be happy wherever we end up.  I hope that Aaron gets a plane that he wants, although I know he'll be fine with anything.  I think it's just the anticipation.  We have NO IDEA where we are going or when we are going.  We could stay here, we could move an hour away, we could move to THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD.  Aaron is one of the first ones to receive his assignment.  I should have had someone else hold my camera to film it, because I am shaking with excitement.  They call his name, he walks up to the front looking a bit of a combination of stressed and nonchalant.  (You'll have to know him personally to know what I mean.)  They roast him for a few moments.  Then...3 possible plane selections pop up on the screen.  I see Aaron instantly relax and even start to grin.  This is good.  I know any of these planes will be awesome and have awesome assignments.  So does the crowd, they 'oooh' and 'aahh'.  Did I mention that this is all happening in front of a couple hundred people?  Family, friends, instructors, other students.  Beer is flowing.  The room is packed, people yell and cheer and clap and boo all night long.

As suspenseful as possible, they eliminate one of the three planes.  Silence.  Waiting.  The second plane is eliminated.  Aaron smiles.  I am so excited...only a few more seconds, it seems like an eternity, and we'll find out where we are going.  The next image....a map of OKINAWA, JAPAN!!!!!!!

The crowd yells and cheers and claps and I scream.  Aaron looks stoked (as much as Aaron can look stoked!).  I clobber hop over the parents of another student (sorry if I crushed you Mr. & Mrs. D!) and practically knock Aaron over with a hug.

I can't even pay attention to the rest of the assignments.  I cheer and laugh and clap, but really, I have no idea what is going on.  I keep turning to my friends mouthing, 'Holy fuck, we are really moving to Japan!'.

That pretty much sums up how I've felt ever since.

Unofficial Definitions:
I am creating an unofficial definitions page to define acronyms and explain some things/events in my own words.  My definitions are based purely on MY experience and should not be used in an official or legal manner.

1Dream Sheet:  This nice piece of paper that lists what planes/bases are available for your assignment.  Aaron had to write everything on that list in order of preference.  He had 1 weekend to consult the list and make his decisions.  It seems like sort of a mystery as how they pick people to go where.  Obviously, if they need airmen in location X, you'll be sent to location X regardless of your dream sheet.  I think that the dream sheet is used as more of a 'tie-breaker', if both base X & Y need someone like you equally, and location Y is on your list, you'll get location Y.  The selection you end up receiving can also depend on the number of other people requesting that choice and your class standing.

2Assignment Night:  I'm not sure if assignment nights are done the same way at every base or branch, but here they have a big event at the club, sponsored by the graduating class.  It's an open invitation, typically with free food and beer.  This is a really casual and fun event, most people on base who can go, do.  I'm sure the free beer helps.  The graduating class presents their homemade 'class video' (light-hearted, funny, and often filled with mocking themselves and imitations of Air Force and pilot stereotypes).  Next come the assignments.  The student gets called up to stand in front of everyone, then they get roasted (the rest of his/her class has previously come up with a script for them), and then they find out what plane they will be flying and where they will be stationed next.

A Welcome and an Announcement

Welcome to Where in the World is Kacey? While I have been actively blogging at Kacey's Kitchen for the past 3 years or so, I have been wanting a place where I can talk about things outside of the kitchen.  Seeing that my life is going to get a little more interesting in the next year, I thought a new blog would be the perfect place to share those adventures and adventures to come.

I believe the name of this blog will be very fitting, you see, this adventure I'm talking about...it's going to be amazing, not just because it's another move - I've moved 3 times in the past 3 years - but because it is an overseas move!!!!  Do you wanna know where???? Of course you do!!!!

We are moving to Japan!!!!

I! Am! So! Freaking! Excited!

I want to use exclamation points at the end of every sentence!!!

I'll talk more about Japan later (and by later I mean I'll talk about it all the time!)

I do plan on covering tons more topics than just Japan, but obviously I'm a little excited about it, so it's probably going to come up a lot.  Check out the About page for more info.
